We have completed the inaugural gBETA Social Impact cohort and there are more Social Impact cohorts planned with gener8tor in 2019. We are focusing on visionary entrepreneurs focused on providing K-12 education content, working the area of providing economic opportunities where currently there are equity gaps and companies looking to create more resilient communities. We are working with gener8tor, which is a nationally-ranked accelerator investing in high-growth startups, on these two-month long cohorts.
We have formally partnered with the Madison Metropolitan School District (“MMSD”) to explore innovative solutions to issues facing the district. Two teachers and two staff members from MMSD’s central office now have the time to explore and learn with American Family Insurance employees to create new solutions to challenges in K-12 classrooms in Madison.
We have partnered with the CEOs of Tomorrow organization to help a number of Madison-area teenagers create their own businesses. These teenagers spend five hours on 10 consecutive Saturdays in a social entrepreneur training lab before pitching their business ideas to community. The students are able to keep all of the profits generated by their businesses at the event.
We sponsored an event with HBCUvc which is a nonprofit organization that trains students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) in venture capital and technology entrepreneurship. The HBCUvc Fellowship provides students with venture capital skills training, mentorship, and the opportunity to build professional relationships with seasoned investors and entrepreneurs.
We sponsored an Audience Award and served as mentors at the annual Startup Runway event in Atlanta which provides underestimated founders access to investors in the Southeast region. It’s the largest such pitch event for women and people of color entrepreneurs in the area.
We are working with Doyenne which is a Madison-based organization that invests in the power and potential of women entrepreneurs. The goal is to end gender disparity in the entrepreneurial community.
All-In-Grocers is not just a grocery store. The 28,000-square foot development will also include a restaurant, a community center, a laundromat, an after-school program focused on literacy, and a nonprofit partner providing re-entry services to the formerly incarcerated.
